Cases of public bus accidents down for past 2 years-Yahoo! Singapore(News)
Road accidents involving public buses has been decreasing over the past two years.
Data released by the Traffic Police reveal that the number of deaths resulting from such mishaps fell from 11 in 2010 to 8 last year, reported The Straits Times.
The number of casualties also fell from 240 to 151 over the same period.
Fatality and injury cases caused by public bus accidents in the first three months this year has also decreased.
From January to March this year, a total of 36 cases were recorded while the figure for the corresponding period in 2011 was 48.
In recent weeks, the spotlight has been thrown on the issue of public bus safety after two widely reported cases of accidents involving pedestrians.
Last week, a schoolboy sustained an ankle fracture after being hit by an SMRT bus in Woodlands.
The accident happened four days days after an SBS bus hit and killed a woman crossing the road at the junction of Sengkang East Way and Compassvale Road.
