TWO SINGAPOREANS DROWN IN INDONESIA


Two Singaporean men have been found dead off the coast of Indonesia’s Bintan Island on Saturday, reportedThe Sunday Times (ST).


The pair – Yusuf Michel, 41, and Muhammad Yusuf Ghazali, 40, - drowned when turbulent weather struck while they were swimming off Trikora beach.


A third man, Muhammad Ridwan, 23, is reported to have survived after he swam back to shore, reported the same paper.


A fourth Singaporean who was part of the group, Nur Huzaifah, 18, was on the shore and called the police after witnessing the incident, said ST.


According to the paper, local police said the four were staying at a mosque near the beach and were part of the moderate movement group Jamaha Tabliq, who travel around the world preaching Islam.


The Foreign Ministry told Yahoo! Singapore that "the Singapore consulate in Batam is aware of the incident and is rendering consular assistance to the families of the Singaporeans involved."
